Agricultural College, Jagtial has organized an 'Open Day' programme on 16th November, 2019 with an aim to sensitize the youth towards agriculture and allied sectors. Sri. B. Rajesham, Joint Collector, Jagtial was the chief guest for the programme. A total of 700 students from Telangana State Model High School, Kodimyal; Zilla Parishad High Schools, Polasa and Gullapeta; Oxford High School, Akshara High School, Goutham High School and Chanakya High School, Jagtial; Sri Saraswathi Sishumandir, Korutla have particiated in the programme. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Honourable Chief Guest Sri. B. Rajesham, Joint Collector, Jagtial. In his address said that agriculture and agricultural education has its uniqueness in real contribution to the society and these type of programme should not limit to few schools in Jagtial. This is the right age for the school students to think of a goal and should have high determination and utilize the opportunities in reaching the goals. He suggested the college to conduct these programmes very often and it would be the best to explore the students present in entire Jagtial and surrounding districts. He also appreciated the efforts taken by the college team for successful conducting of this programme. Dr. K. B. Suneetha Devi, Associate Dean in her address said that it was the first time we have conducted this programme and was really a great feeling by seeing the huge response from the students towards the programme. This programme will certainly be a platform in spreading the agricultural based education and innovations to the needy people, she added. She was thankful to the administration and staff of all the schools for their active participation. She also encouraged the students to select a bright career which can provide services to the farmers, women and youth. Further, Sri. B. Rajesham has inaugurated the 'Exhibition Stalls' where he was exposed to innovative technologies like new varieties released by PJTSAU, models of waste water management, terrace gardening, organic farming, integrated farming systems, ICT based innovations, water saving technologies, green house, shade net and lath house structures, solar systems, soil structures, different species of insects, their life cycles, their impact in the field etc., various demos of the implements for cultivation were displayed and showcased to create awareness among the school children. The students had attended the inauguration programme followed by visit to exhibition stalls, field visit, Honey bee cultivation, AELP units (Sweet Corn Production, Vegetable Cultivation under Polyhouse, Vermicompost, Sericulture), various departmental labs in the college. During the visit the students were exposed to new technologies and were made aware of characteristics of new varieties, low cost high yielding techniques, different pests and diseases of various crops and other related information. Later the school students have interacted with the staff and final year students regarding the new technologies, their usage, measures as well as the opportunities of agricultural education in near future.
