A two days orientation training programme on “Preparation and dissemination of Agromet Advisories at block level “was organised through online on 2nd and 3rd November 2020 to the newly recruited SMS (Agrometeorology) and Agromet observers of District Agromet Units (DAMUs) of KVK Palem, KVK Bellampalli, KVK Rudrur and KVK Bhadradri Kothagudem at Agro Climate Research Centre, Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. During inaugural session the Director of Extension Dr G. Samuel informed all the participants to serve the farming community in a better way by providing medium-range weather forecast based Agro Advisories at the block level in their concerned district. During the two days, the programme focus was on weather-sensitive field operations, influence of various weather elements during different phenophases of rice, cotton, maize, redgram and soybean, weather instruments, web sites to access weather forecast and other relevant information, weather maps and their interpretation, weather forecast interpretation and preparation of Agromet Advisories based on past and forecast weather, soil type and crop phase etc. and advisories for extreme weather events like excess rainfall, heat and cold wave situations. They were trained on the Online preparation of Agromet Advisories using Agromet-DSS App and uploading to the website. The Director of Research R. Jagadeeshwar during the closing session advised the participants to document all the information related to the crop response to climate variability/change, extreme weather conditions and advised them to understand the trends in weather pattern by way of analysis of long term data and its impact on yields and pests and disease outbreaks. Dr G. Sreenivas Principal Scientist (Agro) &Head, ACRC, PJTSAU, Dr K. Nagaratna Scientist –E &Head, and Dr Shravani Scientist – C, Met Centre, Hyderabad, Dr K. Indudhar Reddy Scientist (Agro) and Sri K. Bhanu Kiran Agromet Observer, ACRC, PJTSAU were the main speakers of the training programme.
