Parthenium Awareness Programme Conducted By RARS, Polasa, Jagtial at Adopted Village (Chinnapoor) on 06-09-2019

Regional Agricultural Research Station, Polasa, Jagtial has organized Parthenium Awareness Programme on 06.09.2019 at adopted village of RARS, Chinnapur to make farmers aware about the losses to the crop and ill effects to mankind because of Parthenium. Parthenium hysterophorus is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, Asteraceae. It is native to the American tropics Parthenium hysterophorus locally called Vayyari Bhama or Congress grass. Contact with the plant causes dermatitis and respiratory malfunction in humans, and dermatitis in cattle and domestic animals. The main substance responsible is parthenin, which is dangerously toxic. It also is responsible for bitter milk disease in livestock when their fodder is polluted with Parthenium leaves. Generally the application of herbicides is expensive and often harmful; Paraquat sprays may be applied while the weeds are young. Scientists and Asst.professors of RARS & APT, Jagtial Sri.P. Madukar Rao, Dr.B. Raju, Smt.P. Sadvi, Smt, K. Swathi explained about the importance of Parthenium Eradication to the farmers. Later the farmers, students of Agricultural Polytechnic, Jagtial, Scientists Smt, K. Swathi, Chinnapur Mandal Parishad Primary School Teacher and students involved in removal of the parthenium weed in the village and school premises.
