Nutrient and Pest Management in Paddy a Training Programme cum Field visits organized by ARS, Tornala and IRR, Rajendranagar in Narayanraopet and ChinnaKoduru mandals of Siddipet on 24-01-2023

A Training Programme on Nutrient and Pest Management in Paddy along with field visits was organized by ARS, Tornala and IRR, Rajendranagar in Narayanraopet and ChinnaKoduru mandals of Siddipet in collaboration with department of Agriculture 24-01-2023.At the outset, Sri. K. Shivaprasad, District Agriculture Officer, Siddipet has welcomed the gathering at Rythuvedika, Narayanraopet. Followed by, Smt Y. Padma, ADA, Siddipet and some of the farmers shared their experiences about the present problems associated with paddy cultivation viz., stem borer infestation, sulfide injury, reduced crop growth and development, zinc deficiency, salinty etc.,Later, Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala has shared her field experience that, the improper water management was major problem leading to sulfide injury and poor crop growth and development. She also explained about the nutrient management in rice. Dr. N.R.G. Varma, Principal Scientist (Ento), Institute of Rice Research (IRR) has discussed about the importance of pest surveillance and integrated pest management practices with special reference to stem borer and leaf folder. Dr. T. Kiran Babu, Scientist (Path) explained about the different diseases of paddy and their management practices to the farmers. Further, Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Principal Scientist (Rice), Institute of Rice Research, addressed there farmers and explained in brief about the reasons for the stem borer outbreak and best management practices to be followed in paddy to reap good yields.Later, all the scientists and officials from department of agriculture, Siddipet district visited the paddy field in Narayanraopet, Pedhalingareddypalli, Raghavapur, Gangapur and Ramancha villages and suggested the appropriate management methods. In this programme, Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agro.), Smt. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.) and Dr. E.Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br.) of ARS, Tornala and Agriculture Extension Officers from Narayanaraopet Mandal and a total of 55 farmers have participated in the programme.
