A field day on "Seed production of Redgram" at Potharam Village on 19-12-2020

A field day on ''Seed production of Redgram'' was organized at Potharam village, Husnabad mandal, Siddipet district on 19-12-2020 by Mrs. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.) and Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Sr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, ARS, Tornala. Mr. K. Vijay Yadav, Ms. E. Keerthi Kumari, Ms. G. Sushma and T. Pranitha, AEO's of Husnabad mandal, host farmer A. Venkatram Reddy and 20 other farmers from the village have participated in the programme. The seed production of WRGE 93 variety of redgram was taken up by ARS, Tornala on outsourcing basis in the farmer field at Potharam village. At the outset, A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.), ARS, Tornala has explained in detail about the redgram seed production aspects viz., importance of source seed, isolation distance, no. of field inspections to be conducted, importance and timing of rouging, precautions to be followed during harvest and post harvest period. Later, Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Sr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, ARS, Tornala explained about the management practices to be followed to get the higher yields and plant protection measures to be followed in redgram seed production and explained about agronomic packages for organic farming in redgram. He also added that seed production is remunerative to the farmers and enhance the farmers income by 1.5-2.0 times. Further, he also informed the farmers about seed availability at ARS, Tornala. Mr. K. Vijay Yadav, AEO, Husnabad, gave an overview of opportunities available for seed production in Husnabad mandal. Later host farmer Mr. A. Venkatram Reddy has shared his experience with the fellow farmers about redgram seed production. Participant farmers expressed that they are ready to take up seed production on a large scale from next season onwards.
