10th University Foundation Day celebrations by ARS and DAATTC, Tornala on 03-09-2024

Farmer-Scientist interaction and field day of green gram variety, MGG-385 was organized on the eve of tenth University foundation day by ARS and DAATTC, Tornala on 03.09.2024 at Tornala. The programme was started with lightening of lamp by dignitaries and farmers followed by offering floral tributes to the Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar by all the staff of ARS and DAATTC, Tornala along with the farmers followed with playing of University Song. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist & Head, ARS, Tornala has addressed the gathering and highlighted the key achievements such as newly released varieties viz., RNR-28661, WGL-1119, Maize hybrid DHM-206 and importance of HDPS cotton, paired row method of maize planting, Dry DSR technologies suitable to the region. She has detailed about progress of ARS, Tornala for the past 10 years with regard to technologies and seed production aspects in reaching the farmers. She also explained about efforts of DAATTC, Tornala towards farmer service, dissemination of university technologies, minikits, on farm and frontline demonstrations. All the farmers, teaching and non-teaching staff of Tornala joined in live telecasting of University foundation day programme. Later, farmers from different villages (Mundrai, Tornala, Chittapur, Ankshapur, Irkode, Chinnakodur, Chowdaram villages) expressed their views on the university technologies and varieties and the services rendered by the scientific staff of ARS and DAATTC, Tornala. Smt.T.Radhika, DAO, Siddipet and chief guest for the occassion, explained about role of University in providing technologies and varieties to the farmers through Agriculture Department. She stressed about negative effects of monocropping like increase in soil salinity. She requested to provide information for overcoming monkey menace, HDPS cotton technology adoption in wide area, and availability of single picking cotton varieties. Later, Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist (TOT), DAATTC, Tornala has distributed critical inputs pheromone traps and neem oil for stem borer in paddy and maize crops for OFTs & FLDs the farmers. Field day of green gram variety, MGG-385 was conducted and Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist & Head, ARS, Tornala explained that it is suitable for all seasons with 70-75 days duration, synchronous maturity, medium bold, shiny seed with dark green color and resistant to stem necrosis, leaf curl and leaf crinckle disease and moderately resistant to YMV, cercospora leaf spot and maruca pod borer and yields about 1500-1600 kg/ha. In this event, Smt.Padma, ADA, P.Veenela, AEO, Chinnakodur, Sri.Yellaiah, FPO Director, Chinnakodur 30 farmers, Scientific staff of ARS and DAATTC, Tornala participated in the programme.
