KVK, Malyal organized 3 days Skill Training on “Honey Bee Rearing” under ARYA Project, 2020-21

KVK, Malyal organized 3 days Skill Training Programme on “Honey Bee Rearing” from 15th to 17th March, 2021 at KVK, Malyal under ARYA Project, 2020-21 to the Rural Youth. The training started with inaugural session on 15-03-2021. Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Malyal explained about the need and importance of the programme. Declining population of honey bees worldwide due to indiscriminate usage of pesticides would affect production and productivity of different crops and hence, farmers should take up judicious use of pesticides and should also maintain crop cafeteria yielding more pollen in some part of their land that enhance the honey bee activity. Sri Ravi Kumar trainer cum practicing entrepreneur of apiculture from Andhra Pradesh acted as resource person for the training programme and gave lectures on “importance of Honey Bee rearing”, “role of honey bees in pollination, quality and yield improvement in crops” on first day. On 2nd day (16-03-2021), Sri Ravi Kumar delivered lectures on “season wise management practices of honey bee unit”, practical class of “demonstration and handling of honey bee unit” and “honey extraction, packing and storage”. On 3rd day (17-03-2021), Sri Ravi Kumar explained about “pest and disease management techniques in honey bee unit”, “Installation charges of honey bee unit and subsidies, etc”, “Byproducts of honey bee unit like royal jelly, propolis, pollen, wax extraction” and in afternoon session explained about “Health benefits of honey bee unit byproducts and their usage”. After the technical session, feedback from the trainees were taken. Subsequently, ‘certificates’ were distributed to the trainees by the organizers. KVK, Malyal Programme Coordinator Dr. S. Malathi and Scientists Dr. N. Kishore Kumar, SMS (Extension), Dr. E. Rambabu, SMS (Horticulture), Smt. A. Ramulamma, SMS (Plant Protection) and Sri B. Kranthi Kumar, SMS (Crop Production) and 25 No.of Rural Youth constituted into 5 groups participated in the programme.
