PJTSAU has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with two private seed sector firms, M/s Chakra Seeds and M/s Sai Krishna Seeds, both based in Kurnool, for commercial marketing and large-scale hybrid seed production of the recently released maize hybrid DHM 206 (Telangana Makka-3). This high-yielding, charcoal rot resistant hybrid has demonstrated a yield potential of over 10 t/ha and was released at the all India level for the North Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar with official notification in March, 2024. Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Registrar, PJTSAU handed over the signed documents to the representatives of the seed firms during the event held on 2nd September, 2024. In his address, Dr. Reddy congratulated the scientists of Maize Research Centre and highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) in advancing new agricultural technologies such as hybrid development and commercialization. He emphasized that leveraging the strengths of both the public and private sectors is crucial for popularizing publicly bred hybrids like DHM 206. This MoA marks the continuation of PJTSAU’s successful collaboration with private seed companies. Previously, through the MRC, the University has signed 43 MoAs for the commercial marketing of maize hybrids DHM 117 and DHM 121. The signing of this new agreement reflects PJTSAU’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovative agricultural practices. All the University Officers and scientists from Maize Research Centre were present at the event.
