NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY OBSERVED AT KVK, WYRA ON 24.01.2022

National Girl Child Day is observed every year in India on January 24th to promote awareness about the rights of a girl child and the importance of their education, health, and nutrition. The National Girl Child Day was first initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008 with the purpose of spreading awareness about gender-based discriminations faced by girls and bring attitude change in the society.  It is being celebrated across the country and in 2024 the quote is ‘Girls are the architects of change, and their dreams have the power to transform societies’. Previous years the themes were 'Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow ' in 2019, followed by 'My voice, Our Common Future' in 2020 and in 2021 it was 'Digital Generation, Our Generation'.  The National Girl Child Day aims to raise awareness on –

  • Inequalities faced by girl children.
  • Importance of female education, health care and nutrition.
  • Need for their empowerment
  • Support systems and opportunities available to girls around the country.

In this regard, KVK, Wyra celebrated National Girl Child Day, 2024 at Government Girls School, Wyra, Khammam with the students, school and anganwadi staff along with KVK faculty.  The participants were sensitized on the problems faced by girls in general by the society, about good and bad touch, the need to over come obscure behaviour by near ones and in public places, role of balanced diet in their growth and development and national help line numbers for girl child abuse.   Also, they were told of every girl child right to free and compulsory education until the age of 14 to elementary education (class 1 – 8) in a neighbourhood school under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.   In order to save the girl child in India, awareness to be created for changing the mindsets of communities and families thereby ensuring the birth of girls and celebrate daughters, educate them, create a safe environment to them and support their resistance to any form of violence.  Girl Child day serves as a reminder to champion the rights of girls and promote a world where they can thrive and fulfil their potential.
