A guest lecture on Research progress in cotton cultivation on 27-10-2021

A guest lecture has been organised at conference hall of RARS, Warangal on 27-10-2021. The guest speaker, Dr. Keshav Kranthi, Chief scientist, International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), Washington D.C USA, spoke on the topic “Research progress in cotton cultivation”. The meeting was chaired by Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal and Dr. M. Balram, Associate Dean, Agriculture college, Warangal, Dr. Sandhya Kranthi, Project consultant, ICAC, USA. The lecture was attended students of agriculture college, Scientists, college faculty, representatives of chamber of commerce and seed industry and print media. Dr. Kranthi lucidly addressed a wide range of issues regarding cotton cultivation. During his lecture, he spoke at length on HDPS cotton cultivation in India and world scenario. He emphasized that HDPS system should go in 90 X 10 cm under light soils situation to reap better yields. In a bid to enhance soil fertility, insisted incorporation of crop stubbles after cotton picking. Realizing the importance of cotton yields in 1st picking, he suggested that retention of first formed bolls are crucial in deciding the cotton yields. So, initial nutrient management and pest management practices are very important in deciding cotton yields. Later the participants were interacted by posing few questions to speaker. Later, the meeting was ended with felicitation of guest speaker.
