As a part of awareness programme on crop diversification during yasangi season in Telangana State, the scientists viz., Dr. D. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. K.Sadaiah and Sri S. Ramesh from Regional Agricultural Research Station, Palem has visited Yedutla village of Gopalpet mandal and Talpunur village of Revally mandal, Wanaparthy district on 25.09.2021. The meetings were organized at respective ‘Raitu Vedikas’ by the AOs & AEOs of the mandal. In this programme, Sri. Sudhakar reddy, DAO, Wanaparthy briefed about the importance of crop diversification and cultivation of alternate crops viz., blackgram, greengram, safflower, sesame, castor etc. to paddy for cultivation during yasangi, 2021-22. During the programme, Dr. K. Sadaiah has explained about the problems pertaining to paddy cultivation in the state. He has explained suitability of crops to the location and availability of seed of alternate crops viz., blackgram, castor, sesame, chickpea and safflower to the farmers. Further explained the rabi castor cultivation practices to the farmers. Dr. D. Vijaya Lakshmi has explained about the cultivation practices of yasangi crops viz., groundnut, blackgram and sesame. Further explained the importance of soil testing and application of fertilizer as per soil testing results. She has also suggested the suitable crops to the location based on soil condition. Sri S. Ramesh has explained about the control measures of pests and diseases in crops viz., groundnut, paddy, blackgram etc. and further discussed about the cultivation of sorghum and millets during yasangi. The meetings were also attended by the farmers, village representatives and AEOs & AOs of the respective villages and mandals.
