Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Sir's visit to RARS, Palem on 09-02-2021

As part of technical review meeting, Hon'ble VC sir Dr.V. Praveen Rao along with Director of Research, Dr.R.Jagadeeshwar visited RARS, Palem on 09-02-2021 and interacted with individual scientists of RARS, Palem, DAAITC, Palem and KVK, Palem. The visit began with field visit of crops i.e., Castor, Groundnut, Sorghum, Millets and Mustard. The groundnut oil mill established recently at Palem and Millets processing unit also were visited. Hon'ble VC sir has emphasized to carry out research in five major crops of STZ i.e., Groundnut, Castor, Sorghum, Redgram, and Paddy and urged the scientists to promote mechanization in all the crops. It was also suggested to identify the thrust areas of research in each crop and to carry out need based research. The breeders were told to work on the station as well as regional mandate so as to develop varieties and hybrids based on changing climate, area under irrigation and farmer's needs. The agronomists were suggested to promote mechanization in all the crops so as to reduce the involvement of labour and to enhance the resource use efficiency. The plant protection scientists were advised to promote the IPM practices in the major crops of the zone. The soil scientists were informed to take up the activities that could enhance the soil organic carbon by introducing pulses in the cropping systems and also by encouraging intercropping. All the scientists were suggested to have membership in International societies and to publish research articles in high NAAS rated journals and encouraged the scientists to prepare project proposals in multidisciplinary approach for the benefit of their professional growth and University.
