Awareness Programme on Pulses to Empower Youth in Achieving Sustainable Agrifood Systems by Agricultural Research Station & Agriculture Polytechnic, Tornala on 10-02-2022

On the occasion of World Pulses Day-2022, an awareness programme on pulses to empower youth in achieving sustainable agrifood systems was organized for farmers and students by Agricultural Research Station, Agriculture Polytechnic and DAATTC, Tornala on 10-02-2022. On this occasion, Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala discussed the importance of pulses in human and soil health. Dr. N. Sainath, Scientist (SSAC), ARS, Tornala discussed on the scope of pulses as alternate crops. Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agronomy), ARS, Tornala explained about pulses production in rice fallows and Sri A. Sathish, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) enlightened on the water management in pulses production. Sri J. Vijay, Coordinator DAATTC reiterated the importance of pulse crops and Dr Pallavi, SMS (Crop Production) discussed the prospects of different pulse crops. Essay writing competition on the topic of “Role of pulses in human and soil health” was conducted to the students of APT, Tornala and prizes were distributed to the winners. Later farmers and students along with staff of ARS, APT and DAATTC, Tornala visited the various pulse crops in the research farm. The programme was attended by 80 students of APT, Tornala and 30 farmers of the village along with Sri Sammi Reddy, MPDO, Siddipet, Sri Hari Krishna, MPO, Sri Jeevan Reddy, Village Secretary, Sri Devayya, Sarpanch, Sri S. Yadagiri Vice MPP, Ms T. Geetha, AEO and also 25 progressive farmers.
