DAATTC, Karimnagar has organized awareness cum method demonstration on poison bait technique for the management of fall armyworm in maize at Chintalpet Village of Metpally mandal of Jagtial District on 24.08.2020. Sri. K. Shekar, Coordinator, DAATTC, Karimnagar created awareness among the farmers on importance of sowing window in maize, installation of pheromone traps, application method in maize whorls, benefits of poison bait technique as a cost effective method that it could be carried out at mid whorl to late whole stage (31- 65 days old crop) at this stage larva which acts as a voracious feeder and attracts easily to the jiggery in poison bait eventually killed by stomach poison of insecticide. Sri. V. Ratnakar, Scientist (Crop Protection) demonstrated the method of preparation of poison bait i.e 10 kg of rice bran was mixed with jaggery (2 kg) solution prepared in 2 liters of water and the whole mixture was kept for 24 hours fermentation a day before. The fermented mixture was applied thoroughly with Thiodicarb 100 grams before thirty minutes of application and made into small balls. Then demonstrated the application procedure of poison bait in maize whorls by involving the farmers. Later on Integrated Pest Management practices for FAW management was explained by the Scientist to the progressive farmers Sri.Shekar Reddy, Gopireddy Mutyam reddy, Anatha Reddy, Santhanna and farmers of the village. In this programme department staff were also participated. This activity was conducted by taking precautionary measures of COVID-19.
