Training programme on “Production Technologies in rabi Sunflower” and “Field day on Sunflower” by Agricultural Research Station, Tornala on 01-02-2023

A Training programme on “Production technologies of rabi sunflower and Field day on Sunflower” was organized by Agricultural Research Station, Tornala in collaboration with Coromandal fertilizers on 01-02-2023 at Bussapur village. In this programme, Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agronomy), ARS, Tornala enlightened on the importance of oilseeds in crop diversification, scope of sunflower and other oilseeds as alternate crops to rice and in paddy fallows, production technologies in sunflower, water and weed management in oilseeds, opportunities of mechanization in sunflower and its advantages such as labour and time saving. Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br), ARS, Tornala explained about important aspects of seed production such as time and isolation distance maintenance in sunflower cultivation and in other oilseed crops. Dr. N. Sainath, Scientist (SSAC) discussed about importance of secondary and micro nutrients in sunflower production. Further, Sri. K. Avinash, representative, Coromandal fertilizers said about Taylor made products for oilseed crops. Later, borax and sulphur were distributed to the sunflower FLDs beneficiaries. Later, farmers have raised problems in cultivation of sunflower and scientists suggested solutions. A field day was organised at sunflower host farmer Mr. Ramesh field. The programme was attended by Sri. Prem Sai, AEO, Mr. K. Sadashiva Reddy, Sarpanch, 5 RAWEP students of College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Coromandal fertilizer representatives, Sri. K. Avinash, Sri. Santhosh and Sri. Ashok and 49 farmers of Bussapur village.
