Under the SCSP 2024-25 program, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Adilabad, is fostering livelihood diversification and dietary improvement in Gangapur, a Scheduled Caste village in Utnoor Mandal, Adilabad. Through the promotion of backyard kitchen gardens and poultry units, women farmers are achieving both nutritional and economic benefits. These backyard initiatives have significantly enhanced vegetable availability, with per capita vegetable consumption in the village surpassing the ICMR-NIN recommended intake of 400 grams per day. Women farmers are not only enjoying a diverse and nutritious diet but are also earning an additional income of ₹500-600 per week by selling surplus vegetables in the Utnoor market. This initiative highlights the role of small-scale, sustainable practices in improving household nutrition and promoting economic self-reliance among marginalized communities.
