Regional Agricultural Research Station-AICRP on Groundnut scheme organized a Groundnut Farmer-Scientist-Exporters- Interaction Meeting on 31.01.2024 in collaboration with ICRISAT, Patancheru, Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Director of research, Dr. V. Sudha rani, Director of Extension, PJTSAU, Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Dr. S. Vanisri, PS (Oilseeds),RARS, Palem, Shri. Rutuparna Dole, Chairman and Shri. Kishore Tanna, Special Advisor, IOPEPC, Mumbai, Dr. P. Janila, Principal Scientist & Cluster Leader – Crop Breeding and Dr. Hari Kishan Sudini, Principal Scientist (Groundnut Pathology) & Head –Science Quality and Strategy, ICRISAT, Patancheru, Dr. B. Pushpavati, Associate Dean, Ag. College, Palem, Programme Coordinators, KVK, Palem and YFA-KVK, Madanapuram. Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem briefed the programme. Dr. P. Janila, briefed about the quality production of groundnut seed and multiple uses of groundnut in confectionery and byproducts of groundnut and how Africans are using the groundnut to eradicate the malnutrition. Dr. S. Vanisri, PS (Oilseeds) explained about the best management practices in groundnut for higher yields & selection of varieties suitable for the particular area and selection of lands for cultivation of groundnut. Dr. Hari Kishan Sudini, explained about good agricultural practices (pre and post harvest management practices) in groundnut crop to manage the aflatoxin contamination. He also demonstrated the PICS bags to the farmers for groundnut pod storage to avoid storage pest damage and aflatoxin contamination. Shri. Rutuparna Dole, Chairman, IOPEPC, Mumbai explained the status of groundnut exports in India and India is the 2nd largest exporter of groundnut in the world. He also informed that majority of the rabi produce in India comes from Telangana especially from erstwhile Mahabubanagar. He also explained about trade rules and quality production of groundnut to get higher yields and higher income to the farmers. Later a Farmer-Scientist-Exporters- Interaction was done and scientists from various organizations were clarified the doubts regarding management, quality seed and trade related questions raised by the farmers. Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Director of Research, PJTSAU briefed about the best management practices in groundnut to get higher yields and also explained about how to export oilseeds and formation of FPO’s and Dr. V. Sudha rani, Director of Extension, PJTSAU addressed the farmers and explained about export of oilseeds. In this programme, scientists from ICRISAT and RARS, KVK and APT, Palem, District Agricultural officers –Nagarkurnool and Mahabubanagar, Agricultural Officers, Agricultural Extension officers from erstwhile Mahabubnagar, FPO-Chairman’s from different locations of erstwhile Mahabubanagar, millers, traders, NGO-Chairman-Jedcherla and a total of 500 groundnut farmers from erstwhile Mahabubanagar, Suryapet, Vikarabad district were participated.
