Regional Agricultural Research Station, Palem, AICRP on Groundnut scheme organized training programmes and seed distribution on 09.09.2024 and 10.09.2024 with association of ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat by involving three farmers producers organizations (Nagarkurnool Farmers producers Company limited, Atmakur (S) Farmers producer Company Limited and Kashimnagar Farmers Producer Company Limited). The main aim of the programme is to increase the groundnut area and productivity in Telangana with introduction of recently released new high yielding varieties with containing high oleic acid, Good agricultural practices, Quality seed production, buy back policies, aflatoxin management etc. the programme conducted under Scheduled Caste and Tribal sub plan schemes, a total of 322 quintals of seed was received from ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat. Total seed was distributed to 474 SC and ST farmers @60-70 kg of pod/farmer. Dr. V. Ram Reddy, Scientist (Pl.Br.), briefed the programme, best management practices in groundnut for higher yields & selection of varieties based on location specific. Dr. B.C. Ajay, Senior scientist, ICAR-DGR, Regional Centre, Anantapur, stressed about the introduction of new high yielding varieties with high oleic acid, quality seed production techniques, buy back policies, reduce the Alfatoxin content in groundnut etc. Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem explained the importance of increasing the groundnut area, production and productivity in Telangana. Further, he thanked Dr. S.K. Bera, Director, ICAR-DGR, Junagadh, Gujarat for sanctioning and supplying of groundnut seed on behalf of farmers of Telangana and University.
