Millets Primary Processing Unit was sanctioned by the Indian Institute of Millets Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during 2019-20 to tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan and it was allotted to tribal farmers (Sri.K.Peddiraju) of Macharam village, Amrabad mandal of Nagarkurnool and it was inaugurated by Dr.M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem on 23.6.2023 as well as one day training programme on “Seed production techniques in Millets” was organized by scientists of AICRP sorghum and Millets scheme of RARS, Palem in collaboration with Agricultural department at Zilla Parishat School Macharam village, Amrabad mandal, Nagarkurnool district. The programme was started at 9.30 am with registration of the farmers later on Sri.A.Sriram, scientist (Pl.Br.), RARS, Palem invited the dignitaries onto the dias, namely Dr.M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem, Sri.K.Peddiraju, surpanch, Macharam, Sri.P.Anand, deputy surpanch, Smt. Muchyam ,panchyath secretary, Sri.Chenna Keshavulu, retired mandal praja parishad president, Sri.Jagan, single window chairman, Sri.Raju, market committee director, Smt.Dasari Laxmamma, surpanch, Jangam Reddy palli, Sri.Sandeep, mandal agricultural officer, Sri.Ramesh, agricultural extension officer of Amrabad. The programme was chaired by Dr.M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem, in his introductory remarks he briefed about the International Year of Millets 2023 and explained in detailed about Millets importance later surpanch Sri.Peddiraju, surpanch explained the important health benefits of millets and deputy surpanch Anand emphasised importance of traditional millets foods in our diet, Smt.Muchyam panchyath secretary instructed the farmers for cultivation of millets at least 10 guntas of their field, Dr.S.Maheshwaramma, scientist briefed about the training programme and explained about suitable millets for cultivation during kharif and their availability and gave important suggestions for cultivation of sorghum crop, Sri.A.Sriram, scientist explained about seed production techniques in millets, Dr.M.Shankar briefly explained about pest and disease management in millets, Sri. Sandeep, mandal agricultural officer, explained about departmental activities and ongoing programmes. Sri.Chenna Keshavulu, retired mandal praja parishad president explained nicely about health benefit of millets, Sri.Jagan single window chairman discussed about the traditional method of millets cultivation and storage, Sri.Raju, market committee director explained the reasons for decrease of millets area and Smt. Dasari Laxmamma, surpanch, Jangam Reddy palli gave a talk on different food items made from millets. Nearly 250 farmers were attended the meeting. Finally, Sri.S.Sriram, Scientist, RARS, Palem concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
