RARS, Warangal- Pilot project on “Awareness and Extension Services on Best farm Practices for Cotton Farmers to Improve Quality, Yield and Sustainability” on 15-06-2023

RARS, Warangal organized a programme as a part of pilot project on “Awareness and Extension Services on Best farm Practices for Cotton Farmers to Improve Quality, Yield and Sustainability” on 15.06.2023. Dr. Y. Prashanth welcomed Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, Dr. B. Dilip Kumar, Coordinator (DAATTC, Warangal), Sri .J. Vijay, Coordinator (DAATTC, Tornala) and Ch. Rama Chandra murthy, Assistant manager (MKTG), CCI, Warangal and Dr. B. Ram Prasad, Senior Scientist (Entomology) on to the dias. Firstly, Dr. B. Ram Prasad told about the importance of the project and best management practices to be taken while raising the cotton crop in HDPS system. Dr. B. Dilip kumar, Coordinator (DAATTC, Warangal) requested farmers to follow correct spacing and get good yields by following best management practices. Dr. J. Vijay, Coordinator (DAATTC, Tornala) told about the success story of the farmer who raised cotton crop in light soils under HDPS system in Siddipet district. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of research explained the importance of HDPS cotton, mechanization in cotton and complete the crop by December end and go for second crop by which the income of farmers can be doubled. Dr. Y. Prashanth told about the hybrids and varieties suitable for HDPS cotton and correct time of spraying of Mepiquat chloride to manage the height of the crop. Smt. B. Madavi explained about the agronomic practices to be followed like fertilizer and weed management. Smt. D. Ashwini explained about the diseases during early crop season and management practices to be taken. Farmers also actively participated in the programme and shared their valuable experiences and also discussed about the raising of crop in HDPS system. Lastly, Dr. B. Ram Prasad requested farmers to share photos of the crop, problems faced during season in the whatsApp group created by cotton section, RARS, Warangal to get immediate solutions and at last seed was distributed to the famers involved in the project.
