RARS, Warangal - Germplasm Exploration visit by NBPR & RARS, Warangal team from 13.12.2022 to 20.12.2022

Presence of crop diversity and species diversity are key important factors for crop improvement. But due to urbanization, mono-cropping systems and modern agricultural practices are resulting in loss of crop and species diversity. Exploration visits at regular intervals may help in protection and conservation of the endangered crop species.As per the national exploration plan 2022-2023, ICAR-NBPGR, regional station, Hyderabad and AICRP on Pigeonpea, RARS, Warangal, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University attended collaborative exploration survey with an aim to collect Green gram, Black gram, Horse gram and other landraces in different crops during 13.12.2022 to 20.12.2022 in erstwhile Warangal district and covered approximately 46 tribal villages. More than 150 samples belonging to 35 different crop species including Red gram, Rice bean, Green gram, Black gram, Pillipesara and other field and vegetable crops were collected. After completion of this collection, collected germplasm lines will be processed for conserved under long term storage conditions at National Gene Bank, New Delhi. The exploration team led by Dr.N. shivaraj, Principal Scientist, Dr L Saravanan, Senior Scientist, NBPGR and Dr. N. Sandhya Kishore, AICRP on Pigeonpea, RARS, Warangal, PJTSAU were participated during visit, other Scientists Mr. Kranthi, SMS, KVK, Malyal, Dr G Padmaja, Scientist and Dr M Madhu, Scientist, AICRP on Pigeonpea, RARS, Warangal were also involved in exploration programme.The programme was facilitated by Dr. R. Uma Reddy, ADR, RARS, Warangal, Dr. R. Jagadeeshwar, Director of Research, PJTSAU, Dr K. Anitha, Principal Scientist (Officer in-charge), ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station, Hyderabad, Dr. SP.
