The programme on “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” was conducted at Agricultural college, Palem on 26-09-2019. Dr. Ariz Ahmed, IAS, Central Nodal Officer, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Nagarkurnool & Managing Director, National Horticultural Board along with Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Associate Dean inaugurated the roof water harvesting structure established at the premises of Agricultural college, Palem in the presence of D. Subba Rao, Regional Director, Sothern Region, CGWB, Dr. K. Avil Kumar, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem, Er. J. Veeranna, Asst. Professor (Aeng.), Dr. K. Charan Teja Asst. Professor (Agro.) & NSS Officer In-charge and other staff. Er. J. Veeranna briefed the gathering about Jal Shakti Abhiyan. He mentioned about the five aspects of programme - water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation. Later Dr. Dr. P. Raghu Rami Reddy, Associate Dean mentioned that the volume of roof water harvesting structures was 175.84 m3 (175840 liters). He also informed that Roof water harvesting structure enhances the ground water level and overcome the inadequacy of water. He also emphasized on ground water recharge and present scenario of quality of water available for drinking purpose in Nagarkurnool. Later Central Nodal Officer, Dr. Ariz Ahmed, IAS interacted with the students and addressed the prevailing water crisis in the country and urged students not to waste water and use it cautiously. He also mentioned about different types of rain water harvesting structures with which ground water can be recharged. Finally, Dr. K. Charan Teja thanked all the members for participating in the programme.
