Seed mela was organized on 24.05.2022 at Agricultural Research Station, Tornala Seed of three crops viz., rice (JGL-24423; KNM-118 and WGL-44), redgram (WRGE-97) and greengram (WGG-42) were kept available for sale. About 80 farmers from surrounding villages took part in programme and rice seed worth of Rs. 1, 62,000/- was disposed during seed mela. KNM-118 was sold in more quantities. Farmers expressed their full satisfaction with regard to the quality of seed that is being supplied through the university. Four pamphlets on best management practices for rice, direct sown rice, greengram and redgram were prepared and distributed to farmers. A “Farmers-Scientist Interaction session on “Best management practices in various crops” was conducted during “Seed Mela”. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala discussed the importance of good quality seed in crop production and seed availability at ARS, Tornala. Dr. N. Sainath, Scientist (SSAC), ARS, Tornala discussed the importance of green manures and their cultivation practices. Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agronomy), ARS, Tornala explained about best management practices for transplanted and direct sown rice production, Mr. J. Vijay, Coordinator DAATTC discussed about best management practices in redgram cultivation, Dr. Pallavi, Scientist (TOT) discussed the management practices in greengram and blackgram cultivation, Mrs. Y. Padma, ADA, Department of Agriculture, Siddipet and Mr. Parushuram Reddy, AO, Siddipet Urban and Rural mandal enlightened on the role of Department of Agriculture in promotion of good quality to seed. Farmers of Tornala, Appanapally, Bussapur, Pullur, Gagillapur, Narayanraopet and Ibrahimpur and other villages of Siddipet district have given feedback on Seed Mela. Lunch was arranged to all the participants. The programme was attended by Sri Y. Devayya, Sarpanch, Tornala, Sri K. Devayya, Sarpanch, Ibrahimpur, Sri Sadashivareddy, Sarpanch, Bussapur, Sri K. Nagesh Reddy, RSS President, Ibrahimpur, Mrs. Y. Padma, ADA, Mr. Parushuram Reddy, AO, Miss T. Geetha, AEO and also progressive farmers.
