The world is dealing with agrarian and nutritional challenges as agricultural lands with irrigation facilities has been exploited continuously. To face these challenges, good quality seed with high return per unit area, less infestation of land with weed seed / other crop seeds, lower incidences of diseases and insect problem as well as minimization of seed / seedling rate i.e. fast and uniform emergence of seedling. In this context, the seed mela is organised to provide quality seed to the farming community at the right time to improve the production and productivity of crops thereby providing higher net returns. KVK, Wyra arranged the meeting to sensitise the farmers and farm women regarding need for selecting good quality seeds, various technologies available to reduce water usage and reduce cost of cultivation like direct seeded rice cultivation, good cultivation practices for improving pulses yield, drip irrigation for maize and vegetables crops along with trellis and mulching for vegetable crops. The effective use of fertilisers also reduced the degradation of soil humus after soil testing and use of natural manures through vermicomposting for organic farming and other technologies for restoring soil organic carbon for better productivity as land under cultivation is decreasing continuously due to population explosion. The meeting was attended by Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, Programme Coordinator, scientists Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar and Mrs. P. S. M. Phanisri. A total of 78 farmers and farm women with KVK staff were present in the meeting.
