The annual event of SEEDMELA - 2022 has been organized by the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) had held at the University Campus in Rajendranagar, and simultaneously other 18 research institutes across the Telangana State on 24-05-2022. The seedmela was formerly launched by the Sri Kondabala Koteswararao, Chairman, Telangana State Seed Development Corporation and the Dr. V. Praveen Rao, Vice Chancellor, PJTSAU, K. Hanumanthu, Special Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, Telangana State. While speaking at the meeting Kondabala Koteshwar Rao had said that, the Telangana state has become the quality seed production hub of India and it provides seed for 7 to 8 states. He further says that, Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri K Chandrasekhar Rao wanted to make Telangana has the seed hub for entire world on this lines, a thrust has been given to the quality seed production and providing of international standard infrastructure in the state. Mr Rao has pointed out that, under the able & visionary leadership of the Chief Minister Sri K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana is the only state in the country had provided the adequate irrigation water facility and timely inputs & envisages several resources for the farmers in the state for doubling of the farmers’ income he added. While delivering the guest of honor address Mr. K. Hanumanthu, Special Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, Telangana State, has appreciated the University for organizing Seed Mela on appropriate time before commencement of the monsoon season and the “Rohini Karthe”. Further he stated that, seed is the hope of the farmers as well as it is the carrier of the technology. The PJTSAU produced seed has highest demand among the farmers because of its quality and affordable price he said. Dr. V. Praveen Rao has delivered the Presidential remarks. Speaking at the event Dr. Rao has told that, it is a proud for PJTSAU that, in last seven years University has released 51 varieties in several crops and out of which 16 crop varieties were become popular in other states and they are released for commercial cultivation in those respective states. Dr Rao has emphasized need of developing agricultural technology or a variety must mitigate the risk & reduce the cost of cultivation, and ultimately it should have enhanced the income of the formers. With constant efforts of the agricultural scientists, Telangana State has achieved highest productivity in all the crops growing in Telangana, which is higher than the national average he said. There is a need to educate the farmers on effective management & utilization of water and natural resources, and increase soil fertility by enhancing the carbon organic matter in the soils as well we should encourage the farmers for adopting crop diversification in the state he added. During the Seed Mela farmer-scientists interactive session was arranged to address the farmers’ quarries on different aspects of selection of quality seed to sowing of the seed and harvest. Large number of farmers, scientists, students, were attended the Seed Mela held in the Rajendranagar. Here after various seeds of different crops will be sold at all the 18 research centers of the PJTSAU in the state till the stocks are over.
