Seed Mela – 2023 organized by Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) at University Auditorium, Rajendranagar on 24-05-2023

The annual event of SEED MELA -2023 has held on 24-05-2023, University Auditorium of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) in Rajendranagar campus. Sri S Niranjan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture has attended as chief & formerly inaugurated the Seed Mela -2023. After the inauguration of the Seed Mela agriculture minister has made a visit to all the exhibition stalls arranged by the PJTSAU, ICAR institutes, Veterinary and Horticultural Universities, State and Central Government Seed Agencies as part of the Seed Mela 2023 venue. While speaking at the program Agriculture Minister, has stated that, Telangana State should become a seed bowl to the entire world, because Telangana has favorable weather conditions for production of high quality seed in different crops. Agriculture minister advised the agriculture department officers regarding the active involvement of farmers in the seed production and it will enhance the income levels of the farmers as well as agriculture profession becomes profitable to the farmers he said. It also attract young farmers towards the farming especially seed production he said. Agricultural university scientists and department of agriculture must put special focus to encourage farmers towards the seed production and organize required training programs to the farmers in the state. S. Niranjan Reddy has also said that, farmers should also be trained about the natural and organic farming methods for protecting & enhancing the soil fertility. Further, agricultural minister has said that, after formation of the Telangana state, government is giving special thrust for agriculture & allied sectors and providing of irrigation facility to the farmers in a larger scale. There is a need to utilize the available water sources for remunerative agricultural practices in the state he added. S. Niranjan Reddy has told that, the government is also encouraging and establishing food processing units in a larger scale across the state and the work is under progress. With this initiative farmers will largely benefited and ensures high returns for their agricultural products. As part of this program several publications were released by the minister and other dignitaries. Seed distribution and sales was also launched formerly by the Hon’ble agriculture minister. Kondabala Koteswar Rao, Chairman, Telangana state seed Development Corporation, Surabhi Vani Devi, MLC, Hanumanthu, Special Commissioner, Department of agriculture, Dr. M Venkt Ramana, Director of Research, PJTSAU, Dr. P. Jagan Mohan Rao, Director, Seeds were spoke on the occasion. Dr. S. Sudheer Kumar, Registrar PJTSAU, Dr. V Sudharani, Director of Extension, PJTSAU large number of farmers, scientists participated in seed mela. Farmer – Scientists interaction program was also conducted to educate the farmers about new agricultural technologies and practices. Similar seed melas held at 3 regional agricultural research stations (Jagitial, Warangal & Palem), KVKs, and other research stations in the state.
