Seed Mela organized at RARS, Palem on 24th May, 2023
Organized seed mela by Regional Agricultural Research Station, Palem on 24th May, 2023 at Silver Jubli Auditorium. All the Scientists from RARS, Palem, KVK, Palem, DAATTC, Mahabubnagar and farmers (325) from different districts of Southern Telangana Zone viz., Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy, press and electronic media have also taken part in the meeting. Dr. S. Maheshwaramma, Scientist (Pl.Br.) extended a warm welcome to the Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, STZ, Dr. S. Vanisri, Principal Scientist (Oil seeds), Mr. P. Venkateshwarlu (DAO, Nagarkurnool), Dr. B. Pushpavathi, Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Palem, Dr. Ch. Bharat Bhushan Rao, Coordinator, DAATTC, Mahabubnagar, Dr. T. Prabhaker Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem and Smt. Lavanya Rama Reddy, REAC member STZ and farmers from different districts of erstwhile Mahabubnagar district participated in seed Mela. Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research briefed about importance of seed mela. Dr. S. Vani Sri, Principle Scientist, Oil seeds gave presentation seed availability of different crops at Palem and their characteristics. Dr. T. Prabhaker Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem explained in detailed about sowing period on different paddy varieties according to the seasonal changes. Dr. Ch. Bharat Bhushan Rao, Coordinator, DAATTC, Mahabubnagar briefed about importance of micronutrients, green manures, land preparation in farming. Dr. B. Pushpavathi, Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Palem emphasized about selection of good seed material and precautions in storage of seed material by and within farmers level. Smt. Lavanya Rama Reddy, REAC member STZ explained about dates of sowing in different crops and identification of spurious and quality seeds in markets. Mr. P. Venkateshwarlu, DAO, Nagarkurnool emphasized on time of transplanting and harvesting of paddy crop and also suggested farmers for seed germination test in various crops before going for sowings. Sri Krishna Reddy, Kothur village, Midzil mandal, Mahabubnagar district enquired about availability of Dhaincha seed by end of May and Management of stem borer in paddy. Dharma Reddy, Addakal mandal, Mahabubnagar district enquired about availability of Ragi Rathnagiri seed variety and marketing and processing of minor millets. Jayapal Reddy, Utkur mandal, Narayanpet district enquired about synchronous maturing Redgram variety. All the queries of farmers explained by concerned scientists. Dr. N.
