Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar organized Seed Mela on 24-05-2024

Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar has organised Seed Mela, 2024 on 24th May. Every year seed mela is conducted in all the Regional Agricultural Research Stations, Agricultural Research Stations and Krishi Vignan Kendras of PJTSAU. 12000 quintals of seed have been produced from 67 varieties of 16 crops and made available to the farmers throughout the state. The Principal Scientist (Agro.) and Head, ARS, Karimnagar Dr.G. Manjulatha has chaired the session and sensitised the farmers to purchase quality seed which is the basic input for agriculture and informed the farmers about the released maize hybrids from ARS, Karimnagar, Karimnagar Makka-1 which is a medium duration wilt tolerant hybrid and Karimnagar Makka while is a short duration hybrid and also WGG 42 Greengram variety, WRG 255 redgram variety released from RARS Warangal and JCS 1020 sesamum released from RARS Jagtial is also available here for the farmers. The farmers were also detailed with the strategies to be carried out for reaping good benefits as a part of vanakalam preparedness. The District Agricultural Officer, Sri. Srinivas has informed the farmers to go for crop diversification instead of cultivating paddy continuously to save the soil health from turning saline and has requested the farmers to go for green manures crops after paddy supplied by the Department and critically suggested to stop burning paddy stubbles. Technical know-how on different aspects has been organized as a part of enriching the knowledge of farmers with the latest technologies. Dr. K. Madan Mohan Reddy, Coordinator, DAATTC, Karimnagar has informed the farmers about the cultivation aspects of High-density Planting System in Cotton and cautioned the major activities to be followed in particular. The suitable varieties, specific attributes and dates of sowing in paddy and maize was conveyed by Dr. D. Sravani, Scientist (Pl.Br.) and in pulses, oilseeds and millets by Dr. G. Usharani, Scientist (Pl.Br.). The Seed treatment in different crops was informed by Dr. A.Vijayabhaskar, Senior Scientist (Pl. Pathology). Production technologies of major crops was explained by Dr. P. Madhukar, Scientist (Agro.). Pest and disease management in various crops was explained by Dr. M. Rajendra Prasad, Scientist (CP). The Telangana State Seed Certification Agency representative Smt. Keerthana has explained the essence of their institute and sensitised the farmers to strictly purchase the labelled seed to avoid any further discrepancies. The Telangana State Seed Development Corporation Manager Sri. Srinivas has informed the farmers about the availability of various seeds with their institution and to take utmost care in procuring quality seed. Agricultural Extension Officers, FPO representatives, Progressive farmers and 120 farmers have participated in the programme.
