KVK, WYRA – SEED MELA ON 24.05.2024

The world is dealing with agrarian and nutritional challenges as agricultural lands with irrigation facilities has been exploited continuously. To face these challenges, good quality seed with high return per unit area and less infestation of land with weed seed / other crops. In this context, the seed mela is organized to provide quality seed to the farming community at the right time to improve the production and productivity of crops thereby providing higher income. KVK, Wyra arranged the meeting to sensitise the farmers and farm women regarding need for selecting good quality seeds, various technologies available to reduce water usage and reduce cost of cultivation like direct seeded rice cultivation, HDPS cotton, good cultivation practices for improving pulses yield, drip irrigation for maize and vegetables crops along with trellis and mulching for vegetable crops. As part of pre-kharif campaign, the farmers were sensitized on summer ploughing and use of green manuring prior to kharif sowings. The effective use of fertilisers also reduced the degradation of soil humus after soil testing and use of natural manures through vermicomposting for organic farming and other technologies for restoring soil organic carbon for better productivity as land under cultivation is decreasing continuously due to population explosion. The meeting was attended by Dr. K. Ravi Kumar, Programme Coordinator (FAC), scientists Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, Mrs. P. S. M. Phanisri, Mr. T. Viswanath PA (Farm Manager), Mr. K. Vinod Kumar PA (Lab technician) and Young professionals of Special project on Cotton.
