NSS Unit of Agricultural College, Polasa, Jagtial in collaboration with DAATTC, Karimnagar has organized a Kisan Mela at Agricultural Market Yard, Gangadhara on its Sixth day of special camp (20-10-2019). Sri. S. Ravishankar, MLA, Choppadandi was the chief guest for the programme. Sri. S. Ravishankar, MLA, Choppadandi in his address said that considering the present status of soils all the farmers should focus on organic farming so as to get healthy yields. He also said that the farmers going for paddy crop should follow the recommended measures as said by the scientists and utilize the services of the agricultural university in a proper manner. He also informed regarding the benefits of ‘Rythu Bheema’ and suggested all the farmers to register their names in the portal for getting benefits for their well being. He also congratulated the students of agricultural college whom he called as ‘Future Young Scientists’ for demonstrating their ideas in an innovative way at the Kisan Mela. Dr. K. B. Suneetha Devi, Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Jagtial said that the institute on all the ways providing the best services to the farmers as well as students. The students are completely involved at the field level practices during their final year so as to engage them in field conditions, to know the real life problems faced by the farmers and also developing their entrepreneurship skills. Smt. Priya Darshini, Project Director, ATMA in her address said that farmers should use the scientific technologies and follow them as per the recommendations of the scientists. They should focus on machinery based operations so that they can save time as well as money. Sri. V. Sridhar, Mandal Agricultural Officer explained about the ongoing schemes to the farming community. He also suggested that the students should decide their goals during the early graduation days and should focus on that in such a way that their services should reach the farmers in a benefitting manner. Dr. N. Venkateshwara Rao, Senir Scientist & Head, KVK, Jammikunta had explained about the crop production technologies in Cotton. He has detailed about the pests and diseases and suitable recommendations for gaining higher yields. He suggested that all the farmers going for Cotton should go for both BT and Non BT seeds so as to control the Pink Boll Worm Infestation. The scientists Dr. B. Srinivas, Dr. Om Prakash, Dr. K. Sekhar and Dr. K. Madan Mohan Reddy have made aware of new varieties released from PJTSAU, Dry and Wet method of paddy cultivation, mobile applications, schemes, pests and diseases and their management practices. Later the exhibition stalls were inaugurated and the students have demonstrated various models w.r.t Integrated Farming System, Mulching, Sericulture, Vermicompost, Watershed technologies, SRI cultivation, Hand craft made PJTSAU logo etc and displayed in the stalls. Further they interacted with the farmers and shared their experiences of their RAWEP villages, their life styles, their technologies and also about the Entrepreneurship units, their marketing strategies. They also made aware of methods and methodologies in seed treatment and other need based technologies needed for the farmer.
