Skill Training Programme for Rural Youth (STRY) on “ Importance of Soil Testing and Judicious use of Fertilizers” from 18th to 23rd December, 2023 at KVK, Malyal.

KVK, Malyal organized 6 days Skill Training Programme for Rural Youth (STRY) on “ Importance of Soil Testing and Judicious use of Fertilizers” from 18th to 23rd December, 2023 at KVK, Malyal. The programme started with formal lighting of the lamp on 18-12-2023 by Sri M. Laxminarayana, DAO, Mahabubabad, Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Malyal and Sri. B. Kranthi Kumar, SMS (Crop Production), Course-in-charge. Sri M. Laxminarayana, DAO, addressed the gathering on the importance of the training. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, CTZ, RARS, Warangal addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of crop residue incorporation and judicious use of fertilizers. As a part of the training programme, lectures on Need for importance of soil testing, method of soil sampling, Integrated Nutrient Management in major crops, Soil Sampling Procedure, Soil physical and mechanical properties, importance of Biofertilizers were arranged involving speakers - Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal; Dr. Ch. Ramulu, Senior Scientist (SS & AC), RARS, Warangal; Dr. J. Kamalakar, Asst. Professor (SS & AC), AGC, Warangal; Dr. S. Triveni, Professor and University Head (Microbiology); Sri. B. Kranthi Kumar, SMS (Crop Production). Hands on training on Collection of soil samples, preparing soil samples for analysis and analysis of PH and EC were imparted for trainees during practical classes by Sri. B. Kranthi Kumar, SMS (Crop Production), K. Sandeep, PA (Lab technician). As part of this, trainees were also taken to an exposure visit to STL, Khammam on 21-12-2023. The training ended with valedictory session on 23-12-2023 in which certificates were distributed to the trainees by Sri M. Laxminarayana, DAO, Mahabubabad. In the valedictory session, Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator, highlighted opportunities of employment with establishing the soil testing mini laboratory. She wished all the trainees on the occasion of National farmers’ day. 28 rural youth attended the six day training programme.
