Beekeeping (Apiculture) is an economically viable technology of agricultural diversification. It has prime significance for human health care and nutrition. Beekeeping needs less space with low investment but fetches quick return and generates employment opportunity. It can be done in homestead areas. Farmers can utilize their leisure time to earn money from this enterprise. However, adequate knowledge and skills are required for pursuing beekeeping as an enterprise. Hence keeping in view of importance of beekeeping, One day training programme on “Entrepreneurship in Bee Keeping for Honey Production” was conducted under ICAR- Scheduled Castes Sub Plan at Agricultural College, Jagtial on September 9th 2022. A total of fifty two farmers from different villages participated in the programme. Dr. S. Narender Reddy, Associate Dean addressed the gathering on entrepreneurial opportunities of beekeeping as it is well suited for rural residents employed in agriculture and artisans which provides income and job. Dr. V. Ratnakar, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology in-charge of training programme created awareness on different honeybees, their lifecycle, equipments used for beekeeping and management of bee hives in different seasons. Trainees have visited beehives installed in the fields and gained hands on experience on beekeeping. Feedback was taken from trainees and expressed their satisfaction for successful learning. Brief information about training programme was given to print media for coverage. Mr. John, Sarpanch of Laxmipur village, Mrs. R. Sushmadevi, Assistant Professor and incharge SCSP and students also participated in the programme.
