Beekeeping is a significant sustainable and environmental sound activity involving integration of forestry, social forestry and agricultural supporting activity since it provides nutritional, economic and ecological balance while providing employment and income. India has a good potential for beekeeping and to become a major honey exporting nation. Beekeeping is a low investment and skill industry having the potential to offer direct employment to lakhs of people especially unemployed youth and farmers. Sustainability of this industry is therefore vital to the country’s economic wellbeing and development In view of this One day training programme on “Entrepreneurship in Bee Keeping for Honey Production” was conducted under ICAR- Scheduled Castes Sub Plan at Agricultural College, Jagtial on 16th September, 2022. Forty five trainees (45 Nos.) were farmers and rural youth of Jagiryal village of Bheemgal mandal of Nizamabad district. Dr. S. Narender Reddy, Associate Dean addressed the gathering on entrepreneurial opportunities of beekeeping as it plays a vital role in the livelihoods of the rural communities in dynamic ways such as an income generating activity; provides food and medicine ; supports agricultural activities through cross pollination and increase in yield of crops. Dr. V. Ratnakar, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology and Coordinator of training programme created awareness on different honeybees, their lifecycle, equipments used for beekeeping and management of bee hives in different seasons. Trainees have visited beehives installed in the fields and gained hands on experience on beekeeping. Feedback was taken from trainees and expressed their satisfaction for successful learning. Brief information about training programme was given to print media for coverage. Dr. G. Srinivas, Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy, Mrs. R. Sushmadevi, Assistant Professor and incharge of SCSP and students also participated in the programme.
