A “Training programme on seed production in different crops” was organized by Mrs. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.) and Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br.) from ARS, Tornala at Ibrahimpur, Narayanraopet mandal, Siddipet district on 16-02-2021. Mr. Nagarjuna, AEO, Ibrahimpur village, Mr. Devaiah, Sarpanch, Ibrahimpur village, Mr. K. Nagesh Reddy, Coordinator of Rythu Samanvaya Samithi (RSS) and 37 farmers from the village have participated in this programme. At the outset, Mr. Nagarjuna apprised of the participants, about Agriculture profile, the ways to go for seed production and other infrastructure facilities available in the village. Later, Mrs. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.) gave a brief note on importance of seed and its standards to use as seed. She also explained about the process of seed production viz., selection of land, purchase of seed material, isolation distance, process of rouging, water management practices, carefulness during mechanical harvesting cum threshing, drying of seed to maintain the optimum/safe moisture and processing of seed material in maize, redgram and greengram crops. Dr. E. Umarani, has emphasized on the seed production in paddy and sunflower. She also added that seed production is remunerative to the farmers and enhance the farmers income by 1.5-2.0 times and discussed about seed availability for kharif, 2021 at ARS, Tornala. Later Mr. K. Nagesh Reddy, Coordinator of Rythu Samanvaya Samithi (RSS) has shared his experience with the fellow farmers about paddy seed production. Many farmers actively participated in farmer-scientist interactive session and expressed their willingness to take up on-farm seed production at least in 100 acres with the support of ARS, Tornala from ensuing kharif, 2021.
