One Day Training Programme on Maize Production Technologies and Management of Fall Army Worm Under SCSP Programme 2019-20 by MRC, Hyderabad

ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana has allotted funds for the upliftment of SC farmers under SCSP programme by organizing training programmes and distribution of inputs, sprayers etc., As a part of the programme the Maize Research Centre has conducted one day training programme on “Maize production technologies and management of Fall Army Worm” at Burjugadda thanda, Shamshabad mandal, RangaReddy district on 6.7.2020. 25 SC farmers from Veljerla (Farooqnagar mandal), Manikyamguda (Maheswaram mandal) of Ranga Reddy district participated. Various lectures delivered on maize crop Production and crop protection technologies with emphasis on Fall Army Worm, speciality Corns, seed production, wild Boar management, storage pest management and mechanization in maize with experienced faculty. The training programme was inaugurated by Manikyamguda village sarnpanch Sri. Chandra Goud as a chief guest and appreciated the maize scientists for extending the benefits to the SC farmers and also advised the farmers to follow the technologies given by the scientists to get higher yields and income. Dr.M.Lavakumar Reddy, Principal Scientist and Head, advised farmers on different production aspects viz., timely sowing, seed treatment, weed control up to 45 days and 1-2 light irrigations during drought periods, timely pests and disease management for getting higher yields. Dr.M.V.Nagesh Kumar, Principal Scientist (Pl.Br) advised to take up single cross hybrids and also popular private hybrids with good yield potential. Further, he emphasized to take bill receipt from the seed and fertilizer dealers to avoid spurious seed. Dr. D.Sreelatha, Principal Scientist (Agro) has advised farmers regarding the fertilizer management with special reference to soil test based recommendations for higher yields and also advised to adopt mechanization in maize to reduce cost of cultivation and improve the financial status of the farmers. As a part of that programme inputs like 8.0 kg DHM117 hybrid seed, battery operated sprayer, and grain storage bin (100 kg capacity) were distributed to 25 farmer as direct benefit. The participation certificates were distributed to farmers by Principal Scientist & Head and Scientists of MRC and Village Sarpanch. The maize scientists accknowledge the Secretary, Sarvodaya mandali for the help extended in organizing the training programme.
