Training Programme on Vermicomposting and vermiwash preparation at Agricultural College, Warangal on 22-02-2022

Agricultural College, Warangal has conducted training programme on vermicomposting and vermiwash preparation to adopted village farmers i.e., Damera, at Agricultural College, Warangal premises on 22.02.2022. Dr. G. Swathi, Village adoption committee in-charge invited the dignitaries on to the dias and she had given brief introduction about the programme. Dr. M. Balram, Associate Dean in his introductory remarks spoke about the importance of vermicomposting and encouraged the farmers to produce and take-up vermicompost as a social enterprise. Dr. J. Kamalakar, Asst. Prof (SSAC) spoke about the importance of organic manures like vermicompost, farmyard manure, green manure in improvement of soil health relation to increasing crop yield without deteriorating the soil fertility. Dr. A. Venkatreddy, Professor and Head (Entomology) explained about the preparation, application and uses of vermicomposting, which includes selection of site, materials and waste required, selection of worms, different methods etc. Dr. Ch. Anusha, Asst. Prof (Entomology) explained about vermiculture and showed vermiculture beds, different methods of vermicomposting i.e., pit method and bed method. Smt. Ch. Yashaswini, Asst. Prof (Plant pathology) explained about the preparation of vermiwash and its uses. She told that vermiwash which is the by-product of vermicompost was collected after water passes via a worm culture column can be applied as fertilizer by directly adding it into soil and as a liquid foliar spray which contains many beneficial microbes, growth harmones, enzymes which helps in plant growth and prevents from pest and disease attack. Pamphlets on vermicompost preparation and 10kg of vermicompost were distributed to farmers. Smt. L. Suhasini, Asst. Prof (Horticulture) proposed vote of thanks. In this programme, Dr. A. Venkat reddy, Dr. J. Kamalakar, Dr. G. Santosh kumar, Dr. G. Swathi, Dr. Ch. Anusha, Smt. Ch. Yashaswini, Smt. L. Suhasini, RAWEP and ELP students and 40 farmers from adopted village, Damera participated.
