Dry direct sowing of rice, although in practice from time immemorial its adoption in a big way is in vogue at Nalgonda and Khammam districts in recent years. Agronomic management developed by PJTSAU and herbicides availability with high selective mode of action controlling complete weeds in rice ecosystem and thus convincing and attracting large number of farmers to adopt dry direct sowing of paddy. Herbicidal application at two levels both as pre-emergence and post-emergence application will be effective in this system. In pursuance of this subject, an awareness programme on weed control in dry direct sowing paddy is organized at adopted village, Satyanarayanapuram on 25.08.2021. Dr.M.Goverdhan, Principal Scientist (Agro) & Head, Agricultural Research Station, Kampasagar interacted with farmers and suggested to apply Pendimethalin Extra 38.7% EC @ 1750 ml/ha immediately after sowing as pre-emergence application. This chemical mostly controls the weeds which are just germinated. Pyrazosulphuran ethyl 10% WP @ 20 g/ha could also be effective. Later after germination of paddy and at 20 days after sowing application of Penoxsulam + Bispyribac sodium combination of herbicides as a tank mix and Penoxsulam + Cyhalofop-Butyl as readymade are available and he suggested to use them for effective control of both broad leaved and grassy weeds. Dr.K.Sumalini, SS (Pl.br.), Dr.G.Shiva Prasad, Scientist (Pl.br.), Sri.M.Srinivas, Sarpanch, Satyanarayanapuram and 50 famers have attended the training. A demo was organized to show the mode of mixing of herbicides and method of application on the crop. Programme was ended with the distribution of Assert and Nominee Gold herbicides for one acre each to 10 beneficial farmers.
