On 05.06.2023, Product Stewardship programme on “Safe and judicious use of pesticides” was organized to the II year students of B.Sc(Hons) Agriculture on the occasion of 'World Environment Day' jointly by M/s Corteva Agriscience India Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad and Department of Entomology, Agricultural College, Warangal (PJTSAU). In this awareness programme, Dr.Achanta Sravika, Field Scientist, M/s Corteva Agriscience India Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad gave an elaborate power point presentation on safe & judicious use of pesticides, use of Plant Protection Equipments (PPE) followed by demonstration on wearing PPE. Around 60 students of II year, faculty from the Dept of Entomology & Plant Pathology have participated along with Dr. M.Balram, Associate Dean. Dr. M.Balram, Associate Dean , Agricultural College, Warangal appreciated the efforts of pesticides industries for organizing such awareness programmes to the students of Agricultural college, as students are the future torchbearers for educating and helping the farming community regarding safe use of pesticides. He advised the students to take full advantage of getting employment in MNCs especially, girl students. He asked the students to develop communication skills, soft skills and innovativeness which are the key points for success in the private industries. Dr.A.Venkat Reddy, Professor & Head, Dept. of Entomology briefly talked about the importance of pesticides in pest control, judicious use of pesticides and ill effects of pesticides. He has advised students to show interest in getting updated information about recent advances in plant protection methods. Talking about pesticide usage in Agriculture, Dr. Shravika explained that, Corteva Agriscience is continuously in the field of Agriculture to enrich the lives of the farming community by providing eco-friendly sustainable solutions for their farm problems. Being a responsible company, it organizes product Stewardship i.e., proper, and careful management of pesticides from its manufacture to end use every year on 05.06.2023 on the occasion of World Environment Day by working closely with the farming and scientific community. In addition, she also gave a brief presentation on opportunities for the Agri graduates in pesticides industry, and she suggested girl students to come forward for joining in private companies, as there are lot of opportunities for them in various departments. At the end, a quiz programme was conducted to the students on topics related to plant protection and distributed prizes to the first and second winners.
