WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY AND PRE KHARIF CAMPAIGN ON 05.06.2024 by KVK, WYRA

The theme of World Environment Day – 2024 is "Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience”. So, each World Environment Day provides hope and an opportunity for all of us to contribute to the protection of environment and well-being of the planet at a time when extreme temperatures, erratic storms, melting icebergs, cyclones and natural calamities constantly remind us of the irreparable damage that has been done to our planet Earth. World Environment Day calls for attention to the ongoing negative effects of climate change and global warming. The environmental ignorance is resulting in drastic climate changes leading to the loss of life, property, biodiversity and even natural resources over the course of more than 50 years. KVK, Wyra participated in World Environment Day celebration at Rythuvedika, Enkoor organised by WOTR organisation, Khammam with farmers and farmwomen a pledge to save the environment. The meeting was attended by Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, SMS (Home Science), KVK staff and department officials. The participants were sensitized on the importance of water conservation by adopting popularized techniques like direct seeding in rice, paired row in maize, closure planting in cotton as well as trellising and mulching for vegetable cultivation. As part pre-kharif campaign, the need for soil conservation by using green manuring and avoiding burning of agricultural waste need to be considered as these simple ways help to protect the soil. The reduction, reuse and recycling of materials and cut down in thrown aways, maintain the surroundings clean with not just the households but at community level too. The ill effect of destroying the earth can lead to food shortage as the lands become barren and the oceans become fishless. The loss of biodiversity as whole species of living things disappear due to deforestation and increased pollution will affect our health. The rising temperatures may be too much for all living things on the planet to survive destroying them all.
