Organized Farmer Scientist interaction meeting on the occasion of “World Pulses Day” on 10th February 2022 at Fathepur Village of Thorrur Mandal. Dr. S. Malathi, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Malyal addressed the gathering and explained the importance of World Pulses Day and the theme of the day – Pulses to empower youth in achieving sustainable agrifood system. She requested the farmers to grow pulses in atleast some part of land holdings to meet their house hold requirement to achieve balanced diet. Also rural youth should come forward to take up seed production of Pulses crops for farmer to farmer spread of pulses’ varieties and also can take up small scale processing units/ dal processing units and should help in increasing Pulses area, production thus achieving sustainable agriculture. Smt. G. Padmaja, Scientist, RARS, Waragal explained about initial care in pulse crops to avoid disease/ plant problems in the crop period. She also explained the possible niches in Agro Ecosystem where pulses can be grown at individual farm level. Smt. A. Ramulamma, SMS (Plant Protection) explained about “pest & disease management in pulses” and Dr. N. Kishore Kumar, SMS (Extension) spoke about “use of different ICT tools in Agriculture”. Later Farmer-Scientist interaction was conducted, where farmers expressed their views. Farmers expressed difficulty in taking up Pulses because of monkey problem. The idea of including solar fencing components in subsidy scheme was also mooted. Availability of high yielding pulses varieties, problem of wilt, soil analysis were discussed. In this programme, public representatives Sri M. Srinivas, ZPTC, Thorrur, Sri Chinna Anjaiah, MPP, Thorrur, Smt. Soma Narsamma, Sarpanch, Fathepur, Department Officials Sri Kumar Yadav, MAO, Thorrur, Sri Bharath Chandra, AEO, Thorrur, Sri M. Pratap Reddy, RSS Member and 48 farmers participated.
