World Pulses Day - 2022 on 10-02-2022 at ARS, Adilabad

On the eve of ‘World Pulses Day’, a training programme on “Crop diversification - High yielding chickpea varieties” was organized on 10.02.2022 at ARS, Adilabad premises under RKVY project on “Identify and promote high yielding, machine harvestable chickpea varieties to increase income and livelihood opportunities of farmers living in rural and Tribal areas of Telangana” during the year 2021-22 in which nearly 100 tribal farmers of Gadiguda, Utnoor, Bela, Adilabad Mandals participated. In this programme, Dr. Sreedhar Chauhan, Pr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, ARS, Adilabad emphasized about the modern techniques of pulses cultivation; Dr. V. Thirumala Rao, Sr. Scientist (Pl. Br.) briefed about the importance of pulses & suitable pulse crops and varieties for NTZ & management of PBW in cotton through soil incorporation of cotton stubbles; G. Anil Kumar, Scientist (Pl. Br.) explained about the characteristics of high yielding chickpea varieties suitable to Adilabad district & pre-release cultures of ARS, Adilabad; Dr. K. Rajashekar, Scientist (Ento.) spoke about pest & disease management in pulse crops; Dr. D. Mohan Das, Scientist (Agro.) explained about the importance of crop diversification for sustainable cropping systems. Smt. V. Asha Kumari, DAO, Adilabad spoke about the importance of cultivation of pulses for soil fertility enhancement & soil tests based application of fertilizers. Sri Bakki Goverdhan Yadhav, REAC Member, NTZ, emphasized that Adilabad district was ideal in the state for cultivation of diversified crops like pulses & oils seeds. Sri Daratla Kishtu, President of Adilabad Farmers Association added that by taking advises of Scientists of ARS, Adilabad he cultivated new varieties of Soybean, Redgram & Bengalgram for seed multiplication and sale to other farmers. Further, a Field day on Demonstration of pink bollworm management in Cotton through ‘Rotary chip shredder’ was conducted and later Field visits to different Chickpea trials of ARS, Adilabad farm, crop diversification trials, solar traps in cotton trial and also visit to Farm pond was conducted.
