Agricultural College, Sircilla celebrated “World Soil Day” with enthusiasm at adopted village Narsimhulapalle on 04.12.2021. The programme was presided by Sri Ch. Vijaya Saradhi, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, Karimnagar branch while Sarpanch Sri. Ananda Rao, Dr. K. P. Vani, Professor (Agro.) & Coordinator Village Adoption programme and Dr. M. Shanti, Professor (Soil Science) participated in the event. The programme started with welcome address by Dr. K. Rajesh, Asst. Professor (CPHY). Dr. K. P. Vani spoke about the various programmes taken up by the College at the adopted village since last 3 years and of the technologies demonstrated in farmer’s field. Dr. M. Shanti, spoke of the occasion of celebrating this day and informed farmers of the practices that lead to soil salinization and the repercussions arising. Awareness of state of soil organic matter as affected by lesser use of manures, excessive use of fertilizers and indiscriminate use of irrigation water was created. A pledge was also taken to protect soils from salinization. A quiz programme was also conducted for 8 farmer groups in two rounds and prizes were given away for the winning teams. Sri Ch. Vijaya Saradhi, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, Karimnagar branch spoke on details of crop loans re payment procedures and informed about the SBI life insurance scheme to the farmers. Dr. K. Kanaka Durga, Professor (GPBR), Dr. R. Sathish, Asst. Professor (Ento.) from Agricultural College, Sircilla and field officer SBI, Sri. Mallaiah also participated in the programme.
