The World Soil Day, 2024 with the theme “Caring for Soil: Measure, Monitor and Manage” was celebrated in a grand manner at Agricultural College, Adilabad on 05.12.2024. As part of this Programme Officer Incharge Students Activities Dr. M. Suresh invited Dr. K. Bhanu Rekha, Professor (Agro.) on to the dias followed by brief Introduction about World Soil Day, reason behind organizing this event every year etc. It was followed by a Power point presentation on Soil sampling procedure apart from emphasis on factors contributing for soil degradation and sustainable management practices for soil conservation. Later Dr. K. Bhanu Rekha, Professor (Agro.) interacted with students about agronomic management practices for Sustainable agriculture through Power point presentation. She discussed about few aspects like, Minimum tillage, Cover crops, Organic Matter addition, Crop Rotation and Soil test Based fertilizers Application. The programme was followed by a fruitful interaction between students and Teaching Staff. As a part of the programme an “Awareness campaign on “Caring for Soil” with placards by first year B.Sc (Hons.) Ag. students and teaching staff Ag. College was organized in the Agricultural College, Agricultural Research Station and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Adilabad Premises. After the campaign a Visit to Soil Testing Laboratory (STL), Bio Control Laboratory (BCL) was arranged at Distict Agricultural Office, Adilabad. In both the labs Agricultural Officers demonstrated the procedures for Analysis of Soil Sample and Production of Bio-control agents in STL and BCL respectively. After that interaction a session was organized with Technical Agricultural Officer regarding Present Govt. Schemes pertaining to farmers and Department of Agriculture. The programme ended with vote of thanks to Agriculture Department officials presented by Dr. M. Suresh, Officer Incharge of Student Affairs, Ag. College, Adilabad.
