Celebration of World Water Day (Valuing Water) at KVK, Kampasagar on 22-03-2021

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kampasagar celebrated World Water Day with a theme of Valuing Water on 22.03.2021. On this day, Agriculture Polytechnic students participated in rally to create awareness. Dr. M. Shankaraiah, Programme Coordinator & Head, KVK, Kampasagar addressed the gathering and briefed about the present scenario of global and national water levels and its role both in Agriculture and human life. Advised farmers not to waste water, dangers of excess irrigation, contamination of water bodies through fertilizers and recommended switching off pumps whenever irrigation not required and suggested the gathering to use Farm pond technologies in rainfed areas and installation of Micro-irrigation systems to save water and increase production. Dr. I. Swarnalatha Devi, Principal, Agricultural Polytechnic, Kampasagar explained about importance of natural resources and responsibility lying upon every citizen to save those natural resources and also briefed current Water scenario and advised to use available water with best possible technologies that are economical and eco-friendly and increase crop production and suggested farmers no to go for unnecessary deep borewells to exploit groundwater. Dr. M. Shankar, SMS (Plant Protection), briefed the importance of water and neediness in saving the water for future generations. Dr. T. Bharath, SMS (Crop Production), explained different sources of water and its importance in daily life and also different processes involving water that are essential for sustaining ecosystem. Also explained different water saving technologies in Rice, i.e., Drum Seeder and Direct Seeding Technologies which were proved to be saving 40% of total water requirement and a reduction of 8-10 thousand per acre in the cost of cultivation and also explained El-Nino, La-Nino and ENSO Phenomenons and their impact on Indian Monsoons. After that, students of Agricultural Polytechnic shared their thoughts on the World Water Day. The collective assignments were assigned to students by Programme Coordinator, KVK, Kampasagar on the national theme “Catch the Rain” to prepare slogans and innovative ideas on rain water harvesting. Based on the theme students have prepared charts on Drum seeder technology in rice and ideas on rain water harvesting. In this programme, KVK Scientists, T. Himabindu, SMS (Horticulture), S. Pallavi, SMS (Extension) and A. Sai Kiran, SMS (Agrometeorology), Non-teaching staff and Students of Agricultural Polytechnic, Kampasagar a total of 50 members were participated.
