RESEARCH INTRODUCTION - ZONES

Introduction

The University carries out research programmes in cereals, millets, pulses, oilseeds and commercial crops besides taking up discipline oriented research through 15 Research Stations including three Regional Agricultural Research Stations (RARSs) spread over the entire State of Telangana. Besides, 28 All India Coordinated Research Projects and various Research schemes with financial support from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, GoI and GoT are in operation in the University. This includes new Agricultural Research Station at Tornala, Siddipet started in 2014 to carry out Research in Maize, Cotton, Pulses and Sunflower.

The major research activities are prioritized based on location specific constraints and needs of the farming community. The thematic research programmes are conceptualized and organized at each Agro-climatic Zone and local level focusing on emerging issues covering most important crops of the state like Rice, Maize, Sorghum, Cotton, Redgram, Soybean, Groundnut, Castor, Sunflower, Sesame and Safflower.

The ultimate objective of this approach is to evolve cost-effective farm technologies through multi-disciplinary approach for food security at household level, farm profitability, sustainability of production systems, poverty alleviation leading to livelihood improvement and enhancing farmer’s income. Research focus has extended towards application of emerging technologies in agriculture, development of climate resilient technologies and value addition.
