KVK, Bellampalli, Mancherial Conducted a Joint Diagnostic Field Visit on Cotton Fields along with Department of Agriculture, Kumram Bheem Asifabad on 3rd & 4th november, 2020

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bellampalli conducted Joint Diagnostic Field Visit in coordination with Department of Agriculture, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and visited fields of Wankidi, Rebbena, Asifabad and Kaghaznagar mandals of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on 3rd and 4th November, 2020 and diagnosed pink boll worm (Pectinophora gossipiella) in Cotton at economic infestation levels which damaged to bolls is being the most serious which are vulnerable to lead the infection of boll rot fungi also. The main objective of the visit to create the awareness on the integrated management of the pest to keep the infestations below damaging levels in the current season without creating secondary outbreak of the pest and to reduce the overwintering population which will threaten the following season’s crop. Dr. M. Rajeshwarnaik, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Bellampalli and SMS (Plant Protection) along with DAO ADA and MAO explained and given the following measures in detail for the management of the pest and diseases as follows:

  • Suggested to install the pheromone traps @ 8 per acre for mass trapping of the pest.Take up spraying of chemicals like Profenophos (2ml) or Emamectinbenzoate (0.5 g) or Chlorantraniliprole (0.3 ml) or Spinosad (0.375 ml) or Chlorantaniliprole 9.3 + Lamdacyhalothrin 4.6 (0.5ml) etc. alternatively per litre of water at an interval of 7-10 days depending on pest the load for effective control of pest.
  • Mix neem oil once in 2 or 3 sprays with the above chemicals for increasing their efficacy against the pest.
  • Go for spraying of Pyrethroids like Cypermethrin or Lambdacyhalothrin (1ml) or Profenophos + Cypermethrin (2ml) or Thiomethaxam + Lamdacyhalothrin(0.4ml) per litre of water once or twice whenever the pest incidence is severe.
  • Terminate the crop between 180-200 days and go for second crop with green gram/sesamum/vegetables/melons etc., depending on water availability.
  • Incorporate crop stubbles in the field by tractor drawn cotton shredder.
