KVK, Palem, Nagarkurnool dist has been organized World Soil Day Celebrations in collaboration with Swatch Bharat Mission, Nagarkurnool on 05.12.2020 at RARS, Auditorium, Palem. In this regard, KVK, Palem has organized training programme on Vermicompost Preparation to create awareness among the farmers, village secretaries, surpanches and waste management workers about waste separation, worms collection and compost preparation. Sri.L. Sharman, District Collector & Magistrate, Nagarkurnool has graced the programme and highlighted the importance of waste management, vermicompost preparation and segregating wet and dry waste at villages for efficient utilization of the waste. Dr. K. Avil Kumar, Associate Director of Research, RARS Palem narrated about the importance soil fertility, balanced fertilization in enhancing crop yields and sustaining soil fertility through soil test based nutrient management. Sri. K. Suresh Mohan, DPO, Nagarkurnool has stressed about waste management opportunities in rural villages. Sri.M.Venkateswarlu, DAO, Nagarkurnool highlighted the importance of soil testing in fertilizer recommendations and explained the benefits of soil health cards. Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem illustrated the importance of vermicompost for enhancement of soil fertility status, methods of composting by using all the village waste. Practically explained and demonstrated the different layers of bedding material application, days to watering, release of earthworms. Mr.K. Ramakrishna, SMS (Crop Production), KVK, Palem has explained soil sampling procedure and interpretation of results. Live Webcasted the Inaugural Programme of Director Conference which was addressed by Honble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. Further, Created awareness about new Farm Laws enacted recently by Govt. of India. Released a folder on “segregation of waste and vermicompost preparation prepared by KVK, Palem and Swatch Bharat Mission, Nagarkurnool. later distributed soil health cards to farmers. The programme was attended by farmers, village secretaries, MPDOs of 10 mandals. All the staff members of KVK and RARS, Palem graced the occasion. The programme was attended by about 252 participants.
