One day training programme on “Best management practices in Millets” as well as distribution of input (yellow sorghum seed – Palem pacha Jonna 1) to the farmers of Indrakal village, Tadoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool district was organized by scientists of AICRP Sorghum and Millets scheme RARS and KVK Palem in collaboration with Agricultural department under Schedule Caste Sub Plan at on 6.08.2024. The programme was started at 9.30 am with registration of the farmers later on Sri.Shiva Prasad, Agricultural Extension Officer, Indrakal invited the dignitaries onto the dias, namely Dr.M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem, Dr.D.Shashi Bushan, Principal Scientist (Pl.Br.), Dr.S.Maheshwaramma, Scientist (Pl.Br.), Dr.D.Vijaya laxmi, Scientist (Soil science) and Dr.A.Shankar, Scientist (Hort.) KVK, Palem. The programme was chaired by Dr.M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem, in his introductory remarks briefed about the Millets importance and reasons for decrease of millets area Dr.D.Shashi Bushan, Principal Scientist (Pl.Br.), explained the important health benefits of millets and instructed the farmers for cultivation of millets at least 10 guntas of their field, Dr.S.Maheshwaramma, scientist briefed about the training programme and explained about suitable millets for cultivation during Rabi and their availability and gave important suggestions for cultivation of sorghum crop, Dr.D.Vijaya Laxmi, Scientist (Soil science) discussed about the method of soil sampling and also nutrient management in different crops. Dr.A.Shankar, Scientist (Hort.) KVK, Palem explained nicely about package of practices in horticultural crops especially in chilli and oil palm crop and during interaction with farmers they showed interest to know the cultivation practices of oil palm crop and enquired about the marketing facilities for that crop. Later yellow sorghum (Palem pacha Jonna 1) seed was distributed to the selected SC farmers of Indrakal village. Nearly 80 farmers were attended the meeting. Finally, Dr.D.Shashi Bushan, Principal Scientist (Pl.Br.), concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
