As liquid gold is a precious natural God gifted resource, it needs to be efficiently and effectively managed to avoid Crisis. Hence, EEI has taken innovative strides in organizing a four day training programme on “Extension Strategies to Promote Water Conservation Technologies to Enhance Water Productivity’ from 26th – 30th October, 2021. The training curriculum encompassed technical and social aspects involved in the area of water conservation. The sessions were deliberated by the speakers from different government and non-governmental organizations. Various areas covered were paradigms in improving water productivity in farming – challenges and options, assessment of water quality in agriculture, technological advancements for more crop per drop, enhancing water productivity and resilience to climate change in rainfed region, planning, monitoring and evaluation of government using GIS, farm ponds – an overview, water management for enhancing water productivity, approaches for enhancing water productivity in horticultural crops, water budgeting as a means for water conservation, group and community approaches for groundwater management, government initiatives for improving water conservation, sharing of experiences of an NGO in water conservation, conflict resolving mechanisms, value chain management for enhancing water productivity in rainfed areas. The Director, EEI Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy in his valedictory address viewed that participatory approaches in water management are most vital for water Conservation to enhance water productivity. He also emphasized that promotion of managerial skills and abilities of farmers to operate micro irrigation equipment effectively and efficiently has to be taken care of technology diffusion. Water conservation needs a multipronged strategy with a holistic and convergence approach through 7 Rs (restore, rejuvenate and repair water bodies, reduce water loving crops, recycle and reuse water and rethink) to achieve 3E’s – equity, ecology and economy for livelihood security of farmers. Dr. A. Sailaja, Professor, EEI coordinated the programme.
