A training programme on “Suitable Rabi crops and their management practices” was jointly organized by ARS & DAATTC, Tornala on 18-11-2023. The programme was started with the welcome address by Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist, DAATTC, Tornala. As a part of training programme, Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala addressed the gathering on the suitable alternate crops to rice during rabi season and their economic viability. She also explained that growing of safflower or castor as border crop is one of the best option for control of wild boar and monkey menance in the field. Dr. T. Srijaya, Principal Scientist (SSAC), ARS, Tornala discussed on nutrient management in various rabi crops and importance of crop rotation. Dr. E. Uma Rani, Scientist (Pl.Br), ARS, Tornala explained about cultivation of rice and pulses during rabi season. She also informed farmers about the paddy seed availability (JGL-24423, KNM-118, WGL-962), Greengram seed (WGG-42) and Blackgram (MBG-1070) at ARS, Tornala. Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agro.), ARS, Tornala discussed about sunflower cultivation during rabi season as well as in zero till conditions and their production technology, Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist, DAATTC, Tornala gave a talk on new cultivars & varieties of PJTSAU under testing. Later, farmers gave feedback about safflower cultivation and greengram after paddy) and expressed utmost satisfaction. Finally, minikits of paddy (RNR-31479, WGL-1537, WGL-1246, JGL-28639 and KNM-12368) were distributed to the farmers. Later, farmers visited fields of ARS, Tornala, discussed the problems and scientists suggested recommendations to farmers. The programme was attended by 52 progressive farmers of Bussapur, Chittapur, Tornala, Kistapur, Dhommata, Potharam and Ankshapur villages of Siddipet district.
